Side Step Squats

Side step and squat is a killer body weight exercise to tone up legs,lose body fat and get in shape.

Now the reason why I like this exercise because it’s a body weight exercise and the fact that it’s a body weight exercise means you can perform this exercise any time anywhere.

The second reason I like this exercise is because unlike normal squats you need to move your body a on lateral plan i.e side to side which works on the assisting muscles group surrounding your legs thereby helping you attain better balance and stability.

Third reason I like this exercise is because it beaks the monotony of the regular squat and makes squatting as an exercise much more interesting.

So a very effective exercise and let me tell you how to perform this exercise correctly (video above) –

You start this exercise by keeping your chest out,shoulder pulled back and feet shoulder width a part.

Breathe in,step side ways and squat till thigh muscles are parallel to the floor.

From here breathe out, push from the heels and come back to the starting position.

Repeat the same sequence on the other side also.

 Important points to keep in mind while performing this exercise –

1) While squatting do not let your knee surpass your toes or else chances of knee injury are high.

2) Breathe in when you squat down and breathe out when you are coming up.

3) Perform a thorough warm up before you start this exercise as that will reduce your chances of injury.

Overall side step and squat is an excellent body weight exercise that you can do to tone up legs, lose weight and lose body fat simultaneously.
